With a quarter-final victory against Bianca Andreescu at the Italian Open, world number one Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak to 26 matches.
Iga Swiatek of Poland, the defending Rome winner, defeated Andreescu 7-6 (7-2) 6-0.
She sailed through the second set after forcing a tie-break from a 5-3 deficit in the first set.
Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, meanwhile, upset Maria Sakkari 1-6 7-5 6-1 after being a game away from loss.
With his win in Madrid last week. Jabeur became the first Arab or African player to win a WTA 1000 title. He was 5-2 down in the second set against the Greek fourth seed.
The winning matches
With Sakkari serving for the match, Jabeur, 27, came back and won the next seven games. To take a three-game lead in set three, which she would not relinquish.

Last month, Anisimova, a 20-year-old American, stopped Sabalenka’s Madrid Open title defense in the first round.

Daria Kasatkina, who advanced when Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann retired hurt while leading 6-4 3-2, will face Jabeur.
